WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Ancient Indigo blue dyeing techniques continue to be a source of creative inspiration for artists and designers today, just as they were for thousands of years the world over. In this full-day fun workshop you will learn the history of Shibori and use a variety of traditional Japanese Resist Techniques and tools to create your own hand-dyed art works. Materials supplied for each student: A set of 4 cotton tea towels (22”x22”) and 1 Habotai hand hemmed silk scarf (15”x60”) along with numerous objects, binding materials, and dye vats to explore with. No prior experience necessary. This adult workshop is for all levels. Please bring the following items: Scissors, rubber bands, a ruler and a thin, non-bleed light blue, washable marker. Additional small items (cotton or silk) may be brought to dye if time allows. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Priscilla enjoyed her first career as an Advertising Art Director and Graphic Designer for more than 40 years in Atlanta and San Francisco. She studied New Genres in the MFA Program at the San Francisco Art Institute and has exhibited her work throughout the United States. At the College of Marin she explored fiber arts and Shibori Dyeing which continues to fascinate her. Priscilla teaches After School Art at Nicasio School and occasionally conducts Shibori Workshops in West Marin and Kala Art Institute in Berkeley. The classroom is located on the ground floor of the Art Building adjacent to the Sculpture Garden next to the East parking lot on campus.
